Interstate sleeper! by Frank Va Beach VA on 01/05/2009. Trim: 1991 BMW 750iL, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: very comfortable with LOTS of leg room and interior space, great ride, handles road very well, very fast for a very heavy car. good quality all around, looks good for an older car. Generally pretty reliable. Great durable trannie and engine.
Cons: Crammed engine compartment, NOT for the home mechanic. Very expensive parts. No cup holder. Front sets back cushion twists with no warning. Horrible gas mileage (I average about 10 miles per gallon). temperamental displays.
Overall review: great car with lots of power and comfort; ideal for long trips if you can afford the gas bill. made for high speed autobahn driving, not for our 55 to 70MPH max! Reliable but temperamental. If you must have a V12, do yourself the favor of buying a fairly new one!

A Sweet Ride! by natalie central oregon on 07/30/2007. Trim: 1991 BMW 735i (auto), Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: this car floats! It corners like it is on rails. I love the luxury look, and its body style even being an older car is still modern for this year.
Cons: electronical quirks. real wheel drive giving us trouble.
Overall review: overall its a beautiful car and you feel like royalty driving it.

Emily by Chuck from a boring little place in Oregon... on 06/22/2007. Trim: 1991 BMW 750iL, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Absolutely wonderful car... I picked it up for $4k, and drove it for a month, problem-free. All excluding cup-holders (alas, it has none) the car has all the amenities, and features of a modern car... There is no extinguishing the BMW smell... My wife didn't like it, but I loved the fact that every time you get into the car, you're greeted with the BMW smell... It's like new car smell, but better ;) There's so much room in this thing... MSN is incorrect about this particular model... Power seats are standard - front and rear, this thing has heated seats too! YES, it does have traction control, YES it does have stability control...
Cons: This car has essentially 2, 2.5L inline 6 motors stuck together, on the same drive-shaft. This means you have 2 throttle-bodies... These are difficult to service yourself, and many have tamper-resistant bolts. The throttle bodies (DKs) are typically your most common problem, and they cost about a thousand bucks each. Want to replace your plugs and wires? About 700 bucks. Lots of little errors, big E32 community, so it can be fun to work on... Not for the inexperienced mechanic - this thing has more moving parts and intricacies that the MIR space station. You can only use premium gasoline (91 or better octane). This car isn't even a little practical. NOT reliable or inexpensive.
Overall review: Super-Fantastic Driving Experience... (I mean it) Don't buy one older than a 96 (You will need OBD2), unless you are an experienced BMW enthusiast. Don't buy one at all if you aren't a car person. This car makes an excellent 2-bench couch in your front lawn - it may become one. This car is definitely a woman... From week to week, you're alternating between loving her so much you could cry, and wanting to kill her. She's not especially reliable, but man she looks good. In the end, she will cost you half of everything you own.

Find A Good One and Hold On To It. by Scott, Canada on 10/02/2004. Trim: 1991 BMW 750iL, Owned 5 years.
Pros: What a car. The power from the V12 is incredibly smooth. 200km per hour? Nothing. Not only that, but the handling is great, especially for such a big car. The brakes take off speed like nothing, and the ride strikes the perfect balance between performance and comfort. The interior, while a bit dated is probably as roomy as I have ever seen. The back seats recline and the leg room is better than some limousines. The car also has more features than 90% of brand new cars, and all of them work like they did when the car was brand new.
Cons: The sound system is subpar, but who needs to listen to music with the tailpipe music this thing gives off. I had to fix the following during my ownership: the radiator (wasn't as expensive as I thought), brakes (BMW will only replace both the rotors and the pads, so it's a bit pricey, but nothing horrible), and a tailight bulb. I bought the car in 1999 with 60,000 miles. After a couple of years, once in awhile the dashboard display would all of a sudden flash
Overall review: Not only was this car one of the greatest I have ever owned, but it was very reliable to boot. I highly recommend the car, as long as you find one that is properly sorted, with low miles. The performance is awesome, as is the quality of the fit and finish, everything you would expect from this sort of car. I have just sold the car and purchased a 2002 BMW 540i, and after having driven it for awhile, I pine for my old 750. The 5 is a touch faster, but the 7 was so effortlessly smooth.
