Dream Car by 500SLZ on 02/02/2012. Trim: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL coupe, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Being a bit of a sports car nut for over 30 years, I've owned 20+ sport coupes, roadsters and muscle cars but the 500SL is truly the one that beats them all for combined quality and performance. The 1992 Mecedes Benz 500SL allows you to enjoy luxury and performance without needing two cars. Unbeleivable fit and finish that will excite any high-end auto enthusiast. Not many 20 year old cars still look so sleek and beautiful that they attract attention no matter what the car parked next to it looks like! The ride and performance is amazing, the design is stunning and I simply love this car!
Cons: Nothing yet, although I've read that a few people are dissapointed that the car doesn't have cup holders... I slide my center console compartment open and put my coffee in the box. Works perfectly. If you need a second cup holder you can buy one at Pep Boys for $5.00. The car is an 8 cylinder, so it burns gas... so did my Vette, Cadillac, Thunderbird, Camaro and Lincoln. Service is expensive at Mercedes Benz dealer. Find yourself a good independant mechanic... my Cadillac was the most expensive car to service eg. Cadillac struts were $500 each ($400 installation @independant garage. Mercedes 500SL $125 each (installation cost $300 @ independant garage.)
Overall review: If you are considering the purchase of a 1992 Mercedes 500SL that is in exceptional condition, I'm sure it will be one of the most memorable automotive experiences you've ever had. A beautiful car that was built with the ultimate in quality and engineering.

Beautiful car with many problems by An MSN Autos Consumer on 11/19/2003. Trim: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe, Owned 5 years.
Pros: -Modern elegant styling -Deep engine/exhaust sound -Excellent handling. -High max speed -Very stable at high speeds 100+Mph -Detailed instrument cluster guages -Rear Wheel Drive -Good resale value
Cons: -Very unreliable -High maintenance and repair cost -Degrading build quality -Devices not user friendly -Slow acceleration -Bad gas mileage -Heavy
Overall review: The 300SL overall is a decent roadster built for cruising. The car is very reliable up to 100,000 miles but beyond that it is nothing but trouble. At only 140,000 miles the car has gone through many major repairs even when garaged and driven lightly. The 4-speed automatic transmission shifting is rough and not smooth. The car is also prone to many electrical problems.

THE Convertable ! by Sun-Lover on 09/30/2002. Trim: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL coupe, Owned 2 years.
Pros: This car looks great ! Gets lots of attention. Very comfortable, Reliable, & awesome on the highway ! The engine just sings to redline ! This is THE dream car that everyone wished you could afford. perhaps more than the 600 ?
Cons: Maybe too much attention ? Seats only 2 but is that a bad thing ? The car feels a bit stiff but it is a sports version of the S series I suppose.
Overall review: It is difficult to understand if you have not owned a convertable before, let alone THE convertable - a sunroof just does not do justice.

Cons: Everyone at the grocery store wants to park to close to me.
Overall review: If you love classic beauty, safety, and a COMFORTABLE sports model then this is the car for you. Any Mercedes automobile is an exceptional purchase.

Great sport luxary car by SpeedRacer from Seattle, WA on 05/24/2001. Trim: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe, Owned 4 years.

Overall review: Purchased the car used and saved. Thought I got a good bargin as once the deprieciation levels off, the value of the car goes up. Solid built car. Mostly hassle free. However, if there is a problem, the cost is high for the repair. I normally am the kind of person that never buys extended waranty on anything but make sure you do so for a high end car like this as any major repair will cost you an arm and a leg. I get people daily when driving who comment what a beautiful car it is and it certainly turns head. I have made some aftermarket enhancement that helped this, ie AMG polished wheels, lowered with H&R springs, custom build rear spoiler. etc
