The Stylin' beachin/road trippin vee-dub by SN from Carlsbad, California on 08/01/2003. Trim: 1988 Volkswagen Vanagon GL, Owned 8 years.
Pros: This vehicle is a wonderful traveling and beach car as long as you don't mind driving the speed limit. I live in So. California and it is a wonderful get around car. It holds everything for road trips and you can find this car wherever you part it. They have style. Most places that service them have a very friendly staff and are very loyal to vee dub owners. There is a certain bond between all Vanagon owners
Cons: Some repairs can be costly but as long as you treat it well (such as don't accelerate too fast, and you MUST change the oil and keep the water at the correct levels) it will treat you well.
Overall review: I love this car and can't picture myself driving another car. It will be a sad sad day when my car goes kaput...which will hopefully be in a long time. To drive a Vanagon takes a certain type of person. I think kicked back is mostly it....but once you own one, I think you become part of the car. You know when it's feeling sick, when it's hyper, and when it wants to cruise. You conform to it and i think you will love it. One tip....before buying one, make sure when you get it checked out, you get a second opinion on things if you need to make a repair.

where cruising got it's idea by matt and cornelius(vw) McCall, Idaho on 01/24/2002. Trim: 1988 Volkswagen Vanagon Camper GL, Owned 2 years.
Pros: You sit high.....tend to want to drive slow, and take it easy......if you keep the interior clean and upgrade to a peak sound system many people will drool and envy the lifestyle this vehicle promotes. looks cool and is a fully functional RV.....join the family!
Cons: according to my mechanic (who drives the same van) the head caseings volkswagon used up to '91 are inherently flawed and most will be lucky to run the factory part past 150,000 miles. $1200 partial rebuild $2000 full (recomended) Drives like a bread box in the wind. I have heard rumors the CRANKensteins of the world like to steal vans like this to cook up their nasty meth! losers
Overall review: I love my van...and so do all my friends. I plan to retire the van for strictly RV pursuits soon but it works well as a everyday vehicle...big city or big sky!
